This year’s list of Kalaimamani awards
is out amidst the usual controversies and
heated debates against the decisions. One
of the main issues that are snowballing into
gigantic proportion is the exclusion of Tamil
Theatre artists. The members and artists of
the theatre club are vociferous against the
decision of excluding them in this year’s
Kalaimamani awards.

The ex-leader of the Madurai Tamil Nadu Drama Artist Association,
Mr. Kalaimani commenting on the issue said: “the
exclusion of drama artists is a big disappointment and
a shame that our work is not given recognition.”
He also added “when Trisha and Simbu, who can hardly
speak a ten minute dialogue continuously is being honored
with the award, why not us? We talk, dance, sing and play
music at the same time without any retakes.”
Tamil Nadu Drama and Music Association Secretary, Poet
Illaiyabarathy has asked them not to comment on the selection
and also added how none of the performance of the drama
artist is award worthy this year. The leader of the Association,
Mr. Raama. Narayanan, told the press that the exclusion
of drama artists is a worrying factor and has promised
that he would speak to the Chief Minister Dr. Kalignar
Karunanidhi, regarding the issue. Hope the artists finally
get their due recognition.
