Just in case you are wondering what we are
trying to say, we will give you a hint. Think
Hollywood. Ah… you got it. We are talking
about the summer’s biggest releases
and the impact that they are having on the
cash registers.
Well, Spiderman 3 came, saw and conquered.

Everyone who saw the movie loved it and it came up trumps
at the box office smashing record after record, earning
the bucks at a breathtaking rate and it had to because
breathing down it’s neck was another biggie, another
part three ‘Pirates of the Caribbean- At the world’s
end’.
It released a day back and it’s too early to make
any statements about the box office status of the movie.
But for the moment we have the critics’ view. They
seem to think that the movie is a let down. Not for its
lack of special effects, awesome sequences, boundless
fantasy or visual appeal. It seems to be the lack of Captain
Jack Sparrow element that has upset them the most. After
all, when you see Pirates Captain Jack Sparrow is whom
you want to watch. But don’t be disappointed, the
final word is that if you are a pirates fan you are bound
to like this one. Also, there is no Pirates of the Caribbean
4 being made. So, make the most of this one. The box office
contest between the Pirates and Spiderman gathered momentum
even before the formers release. This is because the Pirates
had a 110 more theaters releasing it all over USA than
Spiderman. However, the length of the movie, around 40
minutes more than Spiderman may prove counterproductive.
It is going to be a close call and only on Monday will
we be able to tell whether the newly set three day record
of around 150 million US dollars has been usurped by the
Pirates.
So, Pirates have hijacked the number one spot at the US
box office. Number two is obviously Spiderman you would
think, but no. Who separates them? Well, make way for
the one and only, foul mouthed, bad breathed, pot bellied,
dim witted super hero of our times, Shrek……
whom else did you expect. Shrek 3 has stolen unnoticed
to second spot one week after its release and this animated
ogre is turning out to be a worthy successor of both its’
prequels.
Well, that’s what happened in the US. The Pirates
dock in India in a week’s time and we shall see
whether the Black Pearl is indeed able to break the web
that has been cast by the arachnid superhero. On a more
native note, Amitabh Bachchan and Big B are clashing at
the box office. Cheeni Kum and Shootout at Lokhandwala
release on the 25th. Who will take the honors? Let’s
not care about that, let’s get our tickets.
