She does take time getting noticed, but she
has the knack of getting noticed by some big
names of the industry. After making her debut
in Tamil with Five Star, it took some time
for her to find a good role. Her quality was
never in doubt, but she had to wait nearly
4 years before stardom of sorts courted her
with a role in Varalaaru. Even after the success
of the movie she has not been able to elevate
herself to the next level in the industry.

But now she has received a call from Kerala where she
will be rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names
in film and literature. She will be playing the heroine
of Mammooty in a film titled Pazhassi Raja. The film will
be a period biopic based on the life of one the most celebrated
monarchs in Kerala’s history, famous for the opposition
that he showed to British rule.
The film’s story, screenplay and dialogue have been
written by Jnanpith Award winner M.T.Vasudevan Nair. It
had been M.T’s story and screenplay for the movie
Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha in the year 1989 that had helped
Mammooty bag his first National award. Kanika certainly
will go through a great learning experience while working
with these greats.
Shooting for the film began a few days back in Chennai.
Pazhassi Raja is being directed by experienced director
Hariharan who had been taking an extended break from the
industry.
