Shocked by the Supreme Court's stay on the
law providing for 27 per cent reservation
for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in premier
education institutions such as the IITs and
IIMs for the year 2007-08 the Tamil Nadu State
Government has called for a state-wide bandh
on March 31.

Major opposition parties in the state such as All India
Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the MDMK and the DMDK
are also expected to join the bandh.
With the archrivals from various parties expressing solidarity
over this issue, the Tamil Nadu film fraternity has also
expressed its desire to participate in the bandh. Nadigar
Sangam, Producers' Council, The South Indian Film Chamber
of Commerce, Directors' Council and Film Employees Federation
of South India (FEFSI) have expressed their support to
the State Government. The most important aspect of this
is that the entire film industry would come to a standstill.
Therefore, all activities scheduled for March 31 has been
cancelled. The latest news from the industry is that this
holds good even for outdoor shooting scheduled beyond
the boundaries of the state.
