The movie "Periyar" depicting the life
of the Dravidian leader "Thanthai" Periyar
was to be released in the month of February
but DMK president and Chief Minister
M.Karunanidhi, the disciple of Periyar
was not convinced by few scenes and
suggested it to be re done.
Sathyaraj is doing the role of Periyar and Kushboo is donning the role of Maniammai, wife of Periyar. As the crew is busy finishing the movie, there is a new hurdle in the form of a case in the high court.
A member belonging to the "Hindu Makkal Katchi" has registered a petition in the Madras high court requesting a ban on the movie as it has songs penned by Vairamuthu that hurts the sentiments of Hindus. Periyar everyone knows was an atheist and there was a recent controversy on the statue of Periyar being erected in front of a Hindu temple.
The crew of Periyar is confident to face the case and release the movie without any further delay.
