Kamban, a lawyer from Tanjore landed in Chennai along with twenty of his colleagues and announced that he would fast unto death in front of super star Rajinikanth's house demanding the Tamil industry to condemn the Karnataka government's stance in the Cauvery water issue.
He and his associates were arrested and later released. The Kannada film industry had recently criticized the central tribunal's verdict on sharing of Cauvery river water with neighbouring Tamil Nadu. They had organized a procession to demonstrate their power. In a similar vein, Kamban emphasized that the Kollywood fraternity under the leadership of Rajinikanth should oppose the Karnataka government on this issue. The media views this as some kind of publicity gimmick adopted by the lawyer from Tanjore.
