Way back in 1960, it was a proud moment for
Tamil cinema, when “Veerapandiya Kattabomman”
was the first Tamil film to be selected for
screening at the Asian-African Film Festival
in Cairo. And now history repeats itself. After
almost a gap of three decades, for the Asian-African
Film Festival to be held at Cyprus from 24th
to 27th of April’06, director Ameer’s
“ Ram”, has the honour of being
the only Tamil cinema to be selected along with
130 other films. What makes it all the more
special is that it is one among the 13 contenders
nominated for Best Film. A jubilant Ameer is
off to Cyprus to attend the film festival. Here’s
wishing him all the best.
