The hunt has been on in full swing for the villain
in Sivaji. In fact, after the suspense over the
heroine blew off, the most awaited announcement
was for this role. Several names did the rounds
but we now have confirmed information that yesteryear
star Suman would play the bad boy. Why Suman?
First, Shankar and Rajini wanted someone who was
familiar and popular. Already, Suman and Rajini
had acted in Thee about 20 years ago. In Thee,
Rajini played the misguided elder brother and
Suman, the upright police officer who happens
to be Rajini’s younger brother. How the
brothers were pitted against each other made for
engrossing drama in that film. |
Therefore,
Shankar was convinced that the screen magic would
work again especially because Rajini has a Thee-like
persona in Sivaji. Besides, Sivaji would be dubbed
in Telugu also and hence a face known there would
pull in the crowds. Suman has acted in more than
150 movies in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. He has
even played Lord Rama in the recent Nagarjuna
starrer Sriramadasu.
Another interesting addition is the noted Pattimandram
speaker from Trichy, Raja, who has been roped
in to play Sreya’s father (i.e.) Rajini’s
father in law. Raja is very popular with the Tamil
audience especially for his satirical approach
at pattimandram debates. Looking elated at the
opportunity, he said that Shankar had asked him
to play the role and he readily agreed despite
having doubts about his lean physique. He said
that on the sets he had to get angry in a shot,
but he could not and took many takes. He said
on a serious note that criticizing films is easy
when we are outside but we realize the hard work
only when one enters the field. Kudos Raja, good
luck |
