After his swashbuckling comeback with Rang De
Basanti, AR Rahman, who met presspersons in Mumbai
spoke at length about his forthcoming projects.
With a new close shaven look, courtesy his trip
to the Haj in January, the reticent Rahman was
excited about his work on the stage version of
Lord of the Rings. He said that his experience
of collaborating with Varttina, a Finnish band
was inspiring. The nearly $28 million play was
previewed on February 4. The musical opens in
Toronto on March 28 and moves to London next year.
He said that it was not the Bombay Dreams kind
of music and he had worked on 15 tracks. There
was some Indian influence including a few alaaps
by the talented Shankar Mahadevan. |

But,
mostly it was the global genres which he presented.
He answered the complaint that he was more interested
in international projects than those at home,
he said “Bollywood or Kollywood or global
stage, my aim is to produce good music. I work
only on those projects which convince and challenge
my creativity. Like Shekar Kapur and Aishwarya
Rai, I also take Indian cinema around the world.
So, what’s wrong?” You are bang right,
sir! Keep up the good work! |
