The A.M. Ratnam group in the Producers’
Council seems to have won this round of the battle
for supremacy. President T.G. Thyagarajan, who
was accused of supporting the interests of a private
television channel had been removed. He approached
the High Court last week against what he called
his illegal removal from office. Yesterday, in
a quick succession of events he withdrew his petition
before the Honorable Justice Chockalingam and
announced his resignation. Setting aside the case,
the Judge ordered that the premises, which were
sealed last week be reopened. For the past week,
the Council had been working out of a small place
near the Nadigar Sangam. |
Hence,
the keys were handed over to the Vice President,
Anbalaya Prabakaran. The offices were opened late
last evening and special poojas were performed.
Informing media persons, Secretary Alagappan,
said that citing his other commitments and the
need to be near his ailing father, Thyagarajan
has submitted his resignation. He has also agreed
to abide by the resolutions of the Council and
extend whole-hearted cooperation to its activities.
Further, any of the members of the Executive Committee
would be elected soon as the President. At the
special meeting yesterday, the top brass of the
Council participated. A.M. Ratnam, PL. Thenappan,
Kalaipuli Thanu, V. Sekar, Panchu Subbu, Madhesh,
Ghameela Nassar and many others participated.
Ratnam is widely thought to be elected to the
top post. |
