Even as Indian films are gaining
positive recognition in the international
market, Indian artistes and artistes
of Indian descent are garnering
in quite a few projects. A recent
case in point is that of Kal Penn
– an Indian origin Hollywood
actor, who is acting in films like
Superman Returns and the Namesake.
Kal Penn is also known as Kalpen
Modi, and has been born and brought
up in the US.

In Superman Returns, he plays the role of
a bad guy! "Of the three or four bad
guys in the film, I am one of them,"
says Penn. |
|
For an actor of Penn's caliber,
who has had quite a tough time trying
to make a mark in the industry (despite
being Indian), it is quite an achievement
to be acting alongside veterans
like Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey.
On the Indian front, Namesake is
the film Penn is a part of (in fact,
he plays the role of Gogol, one
of the main characters of the book
by Jhumpa Lahiri), and the actors
he is going to share screen space
with are Tabu and Irrfan. The film
is slated for a November release.
