Kollywood is gearing up for newcomers. There
are more youngsters in the industry now
as also those who have made a mark elsewhere
and come to the industry to make a difference.
Take for example the launch of a new film
titled Ajantha, yesterday.
|
|
|
While at every film launch,
pictures of gods and goddesses
are decked in flowers and
the priest performs the puja.
At the auspicious hour after
the arathi, the first shot
is canned. At Ajantha launch,
the pictures of yesteryear
masters of the film industry
like MAA Sando Chinnappa thevar,
AV Meiyappa Chettiar, Nagi
Reddy and SS Vasan were decorated.
The priests were chanting
the mantras. At exactly 10.15
a.m., Isaignani Ilayaraja
stepped out of his Prasad
Studios recording room and
lit the lamp to launch the
film.

Amidst the people at the event, it
was very difficult to spot the producer.
He was not the usual kadar vetti,
kadar chattai attired man with rings
in his ten fingers. He sported a tuft
and was busy with other priests in
chanting the Venkatesa Suprabhatam.
His name is Ravishankar and he is
well known in NGO circles. His organization
is also involved in several schemes
for the welfare of the poor. Even
out of the proceeds of the audio cassette
sales, an initiative to support education
of poor girls has been planned. Similarly,
30% of the returns from the film will
go for social causes.
Ilayaraja has scored music for seven
songs and all are expected to be hits.
