Rumours are rife in Kerala that the
Malayalam Superstar is going to contest
for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats
for the Communist Party of India-Marxist
(CPM). Given the fact that Mammotty
is said to harbour close relationships
with the CPM and his strong presence
as the chairman of the channel, Kairali,
wherein CPM has a definitive stake,
it didn’t take long for the
rumour mills to start working overtime.
Probing Mammootty further, on whether
he would evince interest if such an
offer were actually made, he said,
“Interest in different,”
which shroud his inclinations in enigma
as well.
Come June 26th and elections will
be held in Kerala. CPM already has
98 seats in the 140-member strong
assembly. Political experts predict
that the CPM-led Left Democratic Front
(LDF) is likely to win two seats and
the Congress-led United Democratic
Front (UDF) is likely to gain one
seat that currently has 42 legislators.
But like cinema, politics can be as
unpredictable and thoroughly surprising.
How will the tide turn? Will Mammookka
enter politics? We can only, but,
wonder. |
