Ever since director Bala went into production
with his film Naan Kadavul, controversies
seem to be following him with unmitigated
fervour. First it was the problem that Ajith
had with the producer’s association,
forcing him to finish his earlier commitments
like Godfather. Now, after a wait of almost
six to eight months, Ajith is out of the
project and Arya is in. |
|
|
Initially, Bala’s choice
was Narain, the actor from Chithiram
Pesuthadi fame. Things had progressed
almost to the discussion level.
However, some of Bala’s
associates and sources from
his close circle of friends
said that they felt the risk
was too high and distributors
might shy away. Moreover, it
was already a big budget film,
and so Narain was eventually
dropped. Later, Surya was approached
for the role, but this stickler
for hardwork and sincerity,
found it difficult to suddenly
indulge in a new commitment.
|
|
|
Moreover,
he wasn’t too keen to fill the
vacuum created by Ajith. In such a scenario,
Arya was the inevitable choice, and
like a stork waiting for its fish, he
grabbed the offer immediately. |
|
But
it wasn’t as easy as that!
Director Saran was quite upset
with Arya’s sudden commitment.
If you remember, we had mentioned
earlier in one of our stories
that Saran would be producing
multiple projects with leading
actors and directors, as part
of his banner, Gemini Productions
and regarding that, he had already
signed on Arya for his next
film. He had, fortunately for
Arya or unfortunately for Saran,
had received only an oral assurance,
from the actor that soon after
his film Auto was complete,
he would work with Saran. |

|
With this new twist in the tale of
Arya taking on Bala’s project,
Saran says that Arya should first
complete his commitment for Gemini
Productions and then take on another
film. But for Arya, working with the
man who gave films like Pithamagan,
Sethu and Nanda, this opportunity
is like a dream come true, and perhaps,
might even be his ticket to the National
Awards, a la Vikram.
The issue has however found its way
to the Producers’ Council, who
are as usual trying to solve this
situation amicably. |
