General Secretary Radha Ravi, Vice-presidents Manorama,
Vijayakumar, ex-vice-president Napoleon, Secretary K.N.
Kalai, Additional Secretary K.R. Selvaraj and host of
450 Committee Members including Sathyaraj, Murali, Srikanth,
Charlie, Abbas, Sripriya, and Mumtaj were present during
the meeting.
It was stressed in the meeting that the Producers' Council
should verify, before booking an artist, whether he/she
is a member of the South Indian Actors' Association.
When it was brought to the notice of the association that
about 20 per cent of the actors and actresses are at present
no members of the association, Sarath Kumar appealed to
them to join the association to continue acting Tamil
films.
The association also decided to conduct "Nadaga Vizha"
every year in which "Kalaiselvam" awards would
be distributed. Another important feature of the meeting
is that actors and actresses in distress will be provided
medical and educational assistance. Letters have been
sent to all the members of the association to contribute
to this fund.
It was also highlighted in the meeting that the present
association building would be demolished and a new building
would come up in 60,000 sq. ft. area. Many industrialists
would sponsor this venture, said Sarath Kumar.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan were invited, over phone,
to participate in the mega star night to be hosted on
August 11 in Singapore and a formal invitation will also
be delivered in person, he added.
Sarath Kumar also said that actors Sathyaraj and J.K Rithish
have announced Rs. 1 lakh and 5 lakhs for the education
and medical assistance fund. |
