Dhanush’s
Pudhuppettai recently completed its 50-day
run in the city. The movie directed by Dhanush’s
brother Selvaraghavan carried a lot of expectations
on it’s shoulders. Selvaraghavan had
an impeccable record of hits in the run
up to Pudhuppettai and his combination with
brother Dhanush had already given us the
mega hit Kadhal Kondaen. |
|
|
All
these factors resulted in the movie
getting an almost unprecedented
opening throughout the state, especially
in Chennai. The opinion about the
film too seemed to be good, but
due to inexplicable reasons the
initial enthusiasm could not be
sustained. The collections of the
film kept dropping steadily and
the move to the 50th day has not
been an easy one.
The
movie was even critically acclaimed,
both for it’s strong characters
and technical perfection.

The
movie was actually shot in the 35mm format
and then blown up into 70mm to give the
entire movie a rough feel. Some important
fight scenes were also shot with a new type
of camera. Also the performance of Dhanush
and Sneha in the film has been appreciated. |
|
Then
why did the movie not rock the theatres?
The overdose of violence and bloodshed
in the movie seems to have put off
a few viewers and kept families away
from theatres. Knowing Selvaraghavan,
it is unfair to expect him to go in
for subtle filming. Dhanush also seems
to have the same opinion; ‘what
needs to be shown has to be shown’.
In spite of all this, the movie is
being considered as a success and
has given Dhanush a much needed him
the much-needed hit. He is now busy
with his Thiruvilayaadal |
