Tamil
cinema has been quite late in honoring
one of its illustrious sons. Chevalier
Sivaji Ganesan passed away nearly
five years ago and after much talk
about installing a statue and building
a memorial and archive nothing had
taken off so far. Chief Minister K.
Karunanidhi had been pressing for
speedy completion of the statue after
he took over the mantle in May. He
also did a quick inspection of Sivaji
Ganesan’s statue in Pondicherry
and ordered that the same sculptor
do one to be installed in Chennai.

Now
we have the news that the statue is
ready but for the finishing touches
and it would be unveiled on July 21,
the death anniversary of the great
thespian. It would be installed on
the majestic Marina beach near the
DGP office. Preparations are on in
full swing and the entire Tamil film
fraternity is expected to attend as
one man.
There will be another Sivaji to pay
the tribute of an entire generation.
There will be Sivaji Rao Gaekwad aka
Superstar Rajinikanth delivering the
special address on that day.

Rajini
has had a fraternal relationship with the
actor’s family and he even worked
under their banner recently. Don’t
miss the event.
