Unruly

It
was a display of crass behaviour from those
who claim to be the conscience keepers of
the film fraternity. We are referring to
the unruly scenes which were witnessed at
the elections to the governing body of the
Tamil Film Producer’s Council.

While
producer-director, Ramanarayanan had
been elected unanimously to the post
of President, there was stiff competition
for other positions and secret ballot
was held this Sunday. The Film Chamber
Complex in Anna Salai Chennai wore
a brisk look with several film personalities
like Kamal Hassan, Muktha Srinivasan
and others making a beeline to cast
their votes. The voting ended at 4
p.m. As soon as the counting started,
there was the realization that the
margin of victory would be slender,
especially for the post of vice-president.

First,
Azhagan Thamizhmani was declared elected
as the treasurer. Then, commotion began
as the announcement for general secretary
was about to be made, as the section which
was bent on creating tension wanted the
vice-presidents to be declared first. The
situation turned ugly as chairs, ballot
boxes and other articles were flung at each
other and abuses were rained. These guys
who have crores of money, do not look upon
the post as that of bringing in discipline
in the trade and showed downright uncouthness.
What can you expect if such people reach
the helm of affairs?
