Chennai
is opening up to the multiplex boom.
The scene that has been to date dominated
by Sathyam, Mayaajal and Abhirami
is now set to enter the next stage.
National players in the multiplex
field are setting up shop in Chennai.
INox opens on the 19th of Jan.
with
four screens and some of the best facilities;
it is all set to challenge Sathyam for the number
one spot.
Following closely is PVR cinemas which plans to
open by mid 2007. With that the multiplex market
in Chennai will touch the red hot zone with all
players trying to woo their audiences. One point
that all multiplex managements seem to agree upon
is the ceiling on ticket rates. Set at Rs. 120,
it is sure to hurt the multiplexes that have to
invest humungous sums to get things going.
However this does not deter them from going ahead
with their plans. They are confident of putting
their case across strongly to the government and
are optimistic about action being taken. But what
one can be assured of is good cinema viewing experience
for anyone who chooses to visit these malls. Not
only in terms of picture and sound, also in terms
of parking, seating, online ticket booking and
others.
