Remix
of old songs could have – in
all likelihood – turned out
to be a rage among the youngsters,
thanks to the music directors experimenting
their talents on those old hits songs.
However, the old lot does not seem
to be reflecting the thought. Whist
on the subject, it is learnt that
Rahman’s name seem to have caught
in a controversy
for
he had remixed the old MGR hit ‘Thottal
Poo Malarum’ for S.J. Surya’s ‘New’.
During birthday celebrations of MGR held at Ramavaram,
Major Dasan, a veteran reporter condemned A.R.
Rahman, S.J. Surya, and others responsible for
the remix of the song stating that the remix culture
has brought disgrace to old songs. He further
added that fans would take to the streets and
show their protest in front of the theatres showing
movies that feature remix of MGR’s old hits.
While remixes are considered to revive the spirit
of old songs, will the condemnation hold water.
Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles, what
say?
That apart, during the birthday celebrations,
it was expressed by director V.C. Guganathan that
government should take steps to announce MGR’s
birthday as the ‘day of human justice’.
