It
is the day when God gave India his
voice. The voice that sings lullabies
for the Lord Sabari Mala Ayyappan
himself; the voice that broke all
the barriers of religion, caste, states
and boundaries. Yes, it is the birthday
of one of the legends of Indian music
padmashree Dr K.J Yesudas.
A very down to earth Yesudas was born in Cochin
on January 10, 1940. Popularly called as Dassattan
(Das anna in Tamil), he has won hearts of millions
around the world and there is no Indian language
that his voice has not tasted. His combination
with Ilayaraja in the 80's has been one of the
best with songs still very soothing to any heavy
hearts. There were times when youngsters from
South India tried to mimic not only the great
man's style of singing but also his personality
and looks. Das anna is busy these days with
preparations for his son Vijay's marriage round
the corner. We at behindwoods.com salute the
legend on his 67th Birthday on Jan 10th.
