The
film was made in Afghanistan, it is
about Afghanistan, but it is not being
shown in Afghanistan. That is the
fate of Kabul Express that has done
average business in India. The Afghan
government enforced a ban on Kabul
Express across the country after there
were doubts that some of the dialogues
in the film could possibly hurt the
sentiments of a section of the population.
The government is concerned about the reaction
of the section that is believed to be made of
direct descendants of Chengiz Khan. All prints
of the movie and all counterfeit CDs that have
been in circulation have been confiscated. The
producer of Kabul Express, Yashraj Films doesn’t
stand to lose much as the film was not doing
any great business in the country anyway.
However it is ironical that the Afghan government
that had extended unconditional support for
the making of the film under extremely difficult
circumstances had to finally ban it.
