Shobana has bagged the prestigious Padmashri award for dance. As her name read Shobana Chandrasekharan many never knew that this was the illustrious actress who had received the award. She has acted in almost all the South Indian languages, besides Hindi and English. With her stunning performance in Manichitrathazhu, Mithr-my Friend and other movies she has already three National awards in her kitty.

But this award must be special for the icon as she bagged it in the field of dance. She is quite excited as respectable colleagues and well-wishers like Kamalhasan (with whom she paired in Tamil), Malayalam Top star Mohanlal and Padmini yesteryear actress and a fine dancer herself, congratulated her personally.

Running dance schools in Chennai, Muscat and Kuwait besides constructing an auditorium in (Alwarpet) Chennai, this talented artist is trying a niche of her own in the arena of dance. She is a busy performer with concerts all round the year. Though she is been swarmed with various offers in Tamil movies she says she had given enough dates for English movies, so she is not able to work in other languages right now. She confirms that it is not the language she is particular about, but the question of time and dates.
