In
these days of financial prudence,
especially in the world of glam and
glitz, looks like the astronomical
rates of musicians have raised a few
eyebrows. On the other hand, the hue
and cry among the producers to slash
the paycheck of actors and actresses
does not seem to be applicable for
the music directors. |

Musicians
take home a hefty paycheck on par with the actors
and directors. For instance, while Rahman takes
home anywhere from 1.2 to 1.3 crores Harris stands
second with an 80 lakh paycheck. Yuvan demands
for 70 lakhs followed by Vidya Sagar who gets
paid 50 lakh per movie. With the stunning success
of Veyil, G.V. Prakash’s market skyrocketed
and he is being paid a whopping 40 lakh per movie.
With the availability of Internet downloads, FM
radios, and innumerable TV stations, audio sales
of Tamil films are plummeting to an all time low.
Do all these mean that it is high time for the
musicians to receive a slash in their paycheck?
