Considered
to be one of the landmark movies of
Tamil cinema, Ratha Kaneer has been
a stage play before it’s movie
adaptation was made. Created by M.R.
Radha, the play was staged in regular
intervals during 1946 to 1979 by the
actor himself.
After the demise of M.R. Radha, Radharavi –
the son of the legendary actor – took over
and started staging Ratha Kaneer, which went on
for almost two decades spanning from 1980 to 1999
before Radharavi decided to wind the legendary
play up for reasons unknown.
News now has it that Radharavi – in an attempt
to revive the classic – has decided to restage
the play in Chennai on February 21. The opening
event of the play will be attended by S.J. Surya
and Dhanu. The venue – as it seems –
is yet to be decided upon. Stay tuned for updates.
