The Tamil Film Producers’ Council has decided
to sue the Sun TV network seeking a compensation
of Rs. 2000 crores. This the office bearers, producer
Kayaar, Anbalaya Prabhakaran and A.L. Azhagappan,
disclosed in a hurriedly convened press conference
on Sunday. They alleged that the network had violated
the guidelines for telecast of film clippings
and songs. The Council had issued guidelines to
satellite channels regarding telecast norms. But,
Sun TV obliged only with respect to domestic telecast
and was showing the film clippings and songs in
overseas areas like US, Australia, Middle East,
Malaysia and Singapore. There was a sizeable Indian
population in these countries and this had affected
the overseas business rights of the films. |
There
was a huge loss to the producers, distributors,
exhibitors and FEFSI. The Council had arrived
at a monetary value of the loss and decided to
seek the amount from the Sun TV network which
included KTV and Suryan FM. The free audio downloads
on the FM channel and a movie review program on
Sun TV titled Thirai vimarsanam had a telling
impact on the collections. Therefore, the Council
has decided to issue a showcause notice to the
television network. |
