Discontent
against top hero Vijay is simmering with theatre
owners in Kanchipuram and Tiruvellore districts.
They have said that the delay in release of Aathi
had denied them the advantage of first day collections.
For example, Paramasivan which was released on
Pongal had a good opening because Aathi was not
released that day. On January 15, the response
for Aathi had become lukewarm. Besides the film
has not been doing that well and the theatre owners
are seeking refund of the minimum guarantee of
Rs. 50 lakhs paid to producer S.A. Chandrasekar.
SAC has coolly washed his hands off the issue
saying that the exhibitors should approach Pankaj
Mehta, the distributor. What is irking them is
the deafening silence of Vijay who does not seem
to be interested in arriving at a compromise.
Veterans like Rajini and Kamal have the policy
of returning the minimum guarantee in case their
film does not do well. But, for a hero touted
as the next Rajini, Vijay’s nonchalant attitude
is surprising. Therefore, at a press conference,
Mr. Kannappan, the Secretary of the Theatre Owners’
Association for North Tamilnadu has announced
that they would approach Vijay for a solution
and in case they are not satisfied would henceforth
boycott all his films. It is advised that the
Ilaya Thalapathi takes charge of the issue before
things get out of hand. |
