Nadigar Sangam and Producers’ council come to Vijay’s rescue
February 09, 2006

Vijay
As the Abhimanyu who got trapped in the Chakra Vyuham, Vijay seems to be a prisoner of the circumstances. While yesterday the theatre owners had gone on record voicing their protest against the losses suffered by them in Vijay’s latest release, Aadhi, support for the actor is slowly gaining momentum. Thennindiya Nadigar Sangam and the Producers’ Council have issued statements in support of Vijay. Nadigar Sangam secretary and MP Sarath Kumar has stated that it is quite unfortunate that the theatre owners have picked up cudgels with one of their members. The problems faced by the theatre owners are commercial in nature and Vijay was in no way involved with the commercial aspects of the film. They should have approached the concerned parties and sorted out the difficulties. Instead of doing so, adopting hardline attitude and threatening boycott are not advisable. It would place Vijay in a lot of anxiety and interfere in his work. Similarly, Mr. Azhagappan of the Producers’ Council has given a detailed account of the events related to the release of Aadhi.
He said that on the day of the pooja itself it was announced that the film would be ready only in February and the film had been sold on outright basis on the same day. But as the theatre owners felt that a Pongal release would improve collections, the producer had speeded up and got the film ready. Due to a last minute technical glitch, the release was delayed by a day. Even then, the producer had made advertisements and promos to announce the release on January 15. Besides, the theatre owners had to approach the distributor as the producer had done all that was needed. Hence, the recent outpouring of discontent would set a wrong precedent as this could be repeated in the case of films of other heroes. Those who gain with a hit should be magnanimous to bear the losses as well. A frank discussion would settle the issue amicably and hence all the parties should come to the negotiating table.
