We had earlier
reported that the production house is in talks
with Hollywood studios to produce films in
the US. Their theater division, Pyramid Saimira
Theater limited (PSTL) had, earlier this year,
acquired US-based Fun Asia, a premier theater
chain. While speaking to our correspondent,
P.S. Saminathan, Managing Director, PSTL,
said that they are in talks with three major
Hollywood studios for producing full-fledged
Hollywood films and had, in the process,
even turned down offers to produce cross-over
films as they aren’t interested in
producing films of that genre. PSTL intends
producing about 40 films in five different
languages in the coming year, which will
make them the biggest producer of movies
globally. They appear equally aggressive
in expanding their theater chain and intend
to become the largest chain in Asia. It
is worth mentioning here that PSTL is currently
India’s largest multiplex and theater
chain. Their production wing, Pyramid Saimira
Production Limited (PSPL), is going public
and will be listed in the stock market by
February 2008 for which they intend to raise
Rs.150 crores by diluting 12 per cent of
their equity. Now that’s called enterprising
entrepreneurship at its best. We are waiting
to see a Hollywood film from an Indian company
soon.
