Hardly a day has passed since the conclusion
of the Chennai International Film Festival
and another one has hit the city. This
one is with a difference, as it is open

The inaugural
film will be a documentary titled C.O.B. Civilians
on the Battlefield is the story of four Germans
– two men and two women – all
around 30 years of age, working as “war
extras” for the U.S. Army at a combat
training centre in the Bavarian forest. For
a few weeks they play-act as Arabian terrorists
and simulate worst-case scenarios. Followed
by this film is another award winning documentary,
The Inconvenient Truth by ex-US Vice President
Al Gore. This film, about the effects of global
warming, apprizes people to take immediate
steps to prevent destruction to earth due
to various types of pollution caused by use
of oil, petrol, gases and methane that are
warming up the earth. There are about 20 films
lined up for screening during these four days.
Another notable film is the Big Sell Out,
a documentary by Director Florian Optiz. This
is about the private enterprises eating up
into the lives of people across the world.
The movie is based on the studies revealed
by Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Prize winner in
Economics. There are also some interesting
feature films from across the world like The
Hostage, Shadow of the Sword, etc. The movies
are being screened at the South Indian Film
Chamber Theater. Here’s a chance for
all you movie buffs to catch up on some of
the finest films and documentaries that you
may not find elsewhere. |
