2006
turned out to be a year of hits; this
makes the judgement of the best performers
very difficult. The stars have had
a whale of a time. Their movies took
fabulous openings, ran for more than
59 days, did well in the overseas
market and reaped profits. You cannot
ask for more.
Who
was the best actor, producer, director of 2006?
Looking at acting, the contenders will be Aamir
Khan (two superhits), Hrithik Roshan (two superhits),
Shahrukh Khan (one superhit and an above average),
Sanjay Dutt (one superhit), and Abhishek Bacchan
(one superhit and an above average film, both
in supporting roles). Here, the only real competition
is between Aamir and Hrithik. But for sheer popularity
and crowd pulling capacity, Hrithik Roshan takes
the cake.
The best director. Well, as most directors make
only one movie a year, we will leave the decision
to the more knowledgeable and experienced panelists
who give away awards. However, the director
of Rang de Basanti, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
and Rajkumar Hirani for Munna Bhai are lead
contenders.
The
best producer or production house. There is
almost no competition here. There is only one
production house that has delivered more than
one superhit. The others like UTV (RDB), Rajshri
Productions (Vivaah) have only one against their
name. so, for Fanaa and Dhoom 2 and Kabul Express,
Yashraj Films must be the top production house
of the year.
As
for actresses, well it has not been a year where
heroines have got much to perform. Preity Zinta
had a pretty quiet time. Rani Mukherjee couldn’t
do much. Both of them had banked all their hopes
on KANK. The only heroine who has two hits to
show is Priyanka Chopra. Krish and Don. So,
Priyanka is the choice for heroine of the year.
Maybe, ardent fans of Bipasha Basu may feel
let down. She did have a good year with Corporate
and Phir Hera Pheri.
