On
a day that was celebrated more by
the media than by the birthday boy
himself, Salman Khan turned 41. The
27th of December was his birthday
and he doesn’t seem to have
taken much notice of it. Maybe he
doesn’t like to wake up to the
fact that he has entered that time
of life when one is called middle
aged.
But
just how can the birthday of one of the Khan’s
of Bollywood go unnoticed. All his fans, well-wishers,
media persons and many others wished him on the
occasion. Many were inclined to take a trip down
memory lane and relive the sensational moments
of this man’s successful and controversial
career.
He has been the Shane Warne of Bollywood. Respected
but not liked by everyone, successful but irreverent.
He has always lived by the rules that he set for
himself. His career started off with a bang in
the year 1989 with the romantic Maine Pyaar Kiya
which was a trend setter in Bollywood. He followed
it up with many more romantic flicks and comedies
which multiplied his fan following. Along with
the other two Khans, Salman was becoming a mascot
of success.
Hum
Aapke Hain Kaun in the mid 1990s put him
on the path to superstardom. Just when he
was gathering an iconic status in the industry
came stories of his real life romance with
Sangeetha Bijlani. From then on Salman has
been paired up by the media with a number
of women, actresses and model. His infamous
romance with Aishwarya Rai which ended in
a pretty messy break up made things worse.
Such stories did his image no good.
To top this up came the black buck shooting
case which saw him land up in jail for a
few days. Just when everything seemed to
have settled down, Salman ran over a person
on the footpath in a fit of rash driving.
Court and cases ended up in a short stay
in jail again.
But
throughout all this Salman has managed to keep
his film career on track. In fact he has not let
any of this affect his performances. His success
percentage at the box office still remains as
good as ever. He comes next only to the two other
Khans and Hrithik. His fans are as crazy about
him as ever and his body still is one of the best
in the business. He has proved with his life that
he is the real ‘COOL DUDE’ of Bollywood,
if at any time there was one. He lives life on
his own terms. Wishing Salman Khan many many more
happy returns of the day.
