And, The Nominees are…
Dec 27, 2006

It is that time of the year when the good movies are separated from the rest; the nominations for the Screen awards have been announced. There are no major surprises; all movies which were major box office grosser find a place in the nominations. Almost all the big stars have at least one major award to hope for.

Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
But the clear frontrunners seem to be Rang de Basanti and Lage Raho Munna Bhai, both of which have been nominated in all major categories. Other prominent movies in the nominations include Omkaara, Kkrish, Dhoom 2, Fanaa and a few others. The real surprises of the nominations have been Khosla Ka Ghosla, Dor and Vivaah. Don and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna had to be satisfied with one nomination each.
Rang de Basanti
While the Best movie nominations include RDB, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Omkaara, Kkrish and Vivaah; there were major changes in the Best Screenplay nominations. The only common factors were RDB and Munna Bhai, the others nominees are Gangster, Malamaal Weekly and Pyar Ke Side Effects, most of these were not expected to find places especially in this category.

The best story category has further changes with Gafla and Khosla Ka Ghosla replacing Malamaal Weekly and Pyar Ke Side Effects.

In the acting department, the race for the male lead actor award is between Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgan (Omkaara), Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and surprise entry Shahid Kapoor.
For the Best Supporting actor category, the race is between Amitabh Bacchhan (KANK), Nana Patekar (Taxi No.9211), Arshad Warsi (Munna Bhai) and three boys from RDB, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni and Kunal Kapoor.

Now the big surprise, Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan find themselves nominated in the best negative role category for their performances in Don and Omkaara respectively. Also nominated is Aamir Khan (for the terrorist of Fanaa) along with Shiney Ahuja (Gangster) and Esha Deol (Ankahee).

In the best actress category, Aishwarya Rai finds herself nominated after a long time for Dhoom2, Bipasha Basu for Corporate (along expected lines), Amritha Rao for Vivaah, Ayesha Takia for Dor, Kajol for Fanaa and Kareena Kapoor for Omkaara.

Keep visiting this space as the list is populated for the technical categories too.
