The
only release of the Christmas weekend
in Bollywood has not exactly got off
to a flying start. Bhaagam Bhag has
been slow off the blocks, much like
Baabul two weeks ago. Both the movies
were expected to take bumper openings,
but that did not happen. While Baabul
did not pick up in the second and
third weeks, Bhaagam Bhag is expected
to gain momentum.
Priyadarshan
brand of comedy and the Priyan-Akshay-Paresh Rawal
team has never failed to click at the box office.
Hera Pheri was a blockbuster, so was Garam Masala
which had released this time last year. It was
this success story that had prompted producer
Sunil Shetty to spare no expenses for the movie.
The movie is easily the most lavishly shot comedy
in the past few years. Almost the entire film
was canned in foreign locales, this has added
significantly to the visual appeal of the film.
But the initial word of mouth hasn’t been
too kind. There seems to be one too many tracks
in the movie. The confusion may put the audience.
People also seem to be getting tired of the repetitive
nature of Paresh Rawal’s tomfoolery. Govinda
has made a mark in his comeback. Though there
are loose ends in the movie, it makes for enjoyable
viewing. A few good laughs are guarantee; also
remember to forget about logic.
Bhaagam Bhag is certainly not a runaway hit, but
Christmas, New Year, festive mood and the consequent
affinity towards lighter moments may see the movie
through, at least in the multiplexes.
