As
a part of development of the city’s
infrastructure, flyovers are being
constructed in various vital points
to ease traffic gridlocks in Chennai
city. National Highways Department
has been acquiring many private properties
in this process for extension of roads.
The stretch from Koyambedu to Maduravoyal
has been earmarked for construction
of a flyover and Vijayakanth’s
Andal Azhagar falls inside the territory.
When
the NH Department approached Vijakanth for acquiring
part of the land where the Mandapam was built,
the actor suggested an alternative plan to the
department, which way the Mandapam would not fall
in the construction plan. However, the plan was
turned down by the department later.
Nonetheless, Revenue Department, in coordination
with the NHD has issued notices to all the 165
landowners – whose lands are being acquired
– requesting them to collect their compensation.
Premalatha Vijayakanth, who owns the Mandapam
has been sent a notice in this regard as well
for her share of the compensation of Rs. 8.2 crores.
Revenue Officials stated that there has been no
response from Vijayakanth’s part in this
regard. The construction activities of the flyover
are expected to kick off only after the disbursement
of compensation to the landowners is finished.
