It
has been in the making for quite some
time and it is finally ready to go,
come Dec 15. Kabir Khan’s first
directorial venture in the commercial
scene Kabul Express is releasing this
Friday all over the country. The director
was until this point in time associated
with documentaries. His works have
found acceptance among international
makers. He has not given any specific
reason for his decision to change
genres.
He
only said that the subject on hand seemed to suit
the movie format more than a documentary.
The movie stars John Abraham and Arshad Warsi.
The movie, as the title suggests has a lot to
do with Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. It
is an exploration of the condition of the country
after violence began in the early 1990s. The story
is being told through the eyes of a television
reporter (Arshad) and his cameraman (John). The
movie will also have a Pakistani and a Canadian,
both playing journalists in full length roles.
The entire movie is based on the travel undertaken
by these four men along with army personnel from
Kabul to the Afghan border.
The movie was shot in the strife ridden regions
of Afghanistan during peak winter time. As expected,
the shooting, which went on for more than a month
was no cakewalk. It was a first of its kind experience
for the entire unit. The movie also has the credit
of being the first movie to be entirely shot in
Afghanistan since violence set in there. The movie
doesn’t seem to be featuring a female lead.
The length of the movie is also just about 90
minutes.
This will be certainly something different for
moviegoers around the country. Kabul Express has
been doing the rounds at many film festivals across
the globe and has won some very positive reviews.
The movie however will face stiff competition
at the box office with Dhoom 2 going great guns,
Baabul’s presence and Bhaagam Bhaag releasing
on Dec 22.
