Amitabh-Salman
starrer records less than 100% first day.

The
much awaited Baabul opened across
theatres in the country on Friday.
Contrary to expectations the opening
day has proved to be pretty ordinary.
An Amitabh-Salman starrer might normally
be expected to start off with 100%
collections, but this case is turning
out to be different.
Part
of it can be attributed to the Dhoom effect which
has left everyone in the mood for style and action.
It might take a while for the adrenaline levels
to come down before people are inclined to watch
a sober family drama. Also, the initial reactions
were that Baabul was a bit too similar to the
earlier AB-Hema Malini combo of Baaghbaan. This
might not be music to the ears of the producers.
There also has been talk about the subject of
the movie being a bit outdated. All in all, not
a good first day.
But there is scope for hope. Many films this year
have shown the trend of picking up during the
last two days of the first weekend. So it might
be wise to hold back verdicts till Monday. Also,
initial collection reports have started coming
in from big cities only. The reaction of the smaller
centres is not yet clear. The producers are not
going to have a peaceful weekend.
