Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are back at
doing what they are best at; mesmerizing
listeners with their tunes. Their
previous two albums this year are
still going strong and with Salaam-e-ishq
releasing the trio seems set to consolidate
their position as Bollywood’s
music kings. If Don was an album well
made to suit the swank and stylish
ways of the international criminal,
then Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was the
perfect mixture of melody, ‘rock
& roll’, disco and pure
mush (Karan Johar style).
These
are the aspects that have kept these albums selling
like hot cakes even months after their release
and if the initial excitement is anything to go
by, then Salaam-e-ishq is set to do the same.
The promos have been grabbing the attention of
T.V viewers for over a month and by now the title
song is already being hummed by many. Add to this
the starcast of the movie (boy, it doesn’t
get much bigger) and the album is ready to rock.
Another good reason for the album to be gobbled
up by the youth is that Salaam-e-ishq is the first
real candyfloss romance of the year. This is after
even Karan Johar (King of Candyfloss) decided
to experiment, not with the best results.
The trailers of the movie suggest a feel good
musical love story involving six different couples
(no love triangles here) that is going to leave
everyone who watches the movie wanting and waiting
to fall in love. After all, the movie is being
directed by Nikhil Advani. He is from the Karan
Johar school of film making, remember Kal Ho Na
Ho, the fun, the music, the mush and the tears.
Salaam-e-ishq seems to be following the same path,
maybe minus the tears. If this one succeeds we
might see the return of the era of love, the divine
avatar. After two or more years of love triangles,
infidelity, disloyalty and lust, one cannot help
but say that this change will be most welcome.
Salaam-e-ishq.
