is Sivamani. For Sivamani (probably the best drummer
in the world at the moment) drums are not the only
things that make rhythmic sounds. Anything that
can withstand the beats of his sticks or his fingertips
will do for Sivamani. May be the most interesting
accompanying musician in the film field (he is much
more than just an accompaniment when he chooses
to be so) and may be the most understudied.
But someone seems to have taken notice of his
colorful character, who prefers to let his rhythms
do the talking for him. Ranjith, acclaimed director
of the Malayalam industry has started shooting
a movie which he has titled Rock and Roll. The
movie stars Mohanlal in the lead and is expected
to release during Ramzan this year. The storyline
revolves around a world famous drummer who returns
to his homeland in search of his roots. Mohanlal
plays the drummer and is reportedly sporting a
new look for the movie. He has gone in for a radical
change in hairstyle, will wear flashy T-shirts,
cargo trousers and a headband (doesn’t that
sound too familiar). Is the character really based
on Sivamani? That is something that the unit has
not been ready to concede. However, the similarities
are undeniable. Sivamani, did you know that you
