Dasavatharam
the much-awaited movie of Kamal Hassan finally
began at Uthandi on ECR last week. We had
a detailed account of this in our website.
The first shoot was that of a song that
got picturised on the mammoth set created
by Sameer Chandra from Bollywood. As reported
earlier this set is the replica of Airavatheeswarar
temple at Darasuram in Kumbakonam.

Though shooting was initially scheduled
to commence at this temple, permission
to shoot was withdrawn later as the
temple comes under the category of
heritage site and shooting of such
a grandeur stature would definitely
disturb the sanctity of the temple.
Considering these factors, Sameer
Chandra from Mumbai was brought down
to recreate the temple magic.
The song that is being shot at Uthandi
has Kamal in an Iyengar get-up and,
this would be his intro song. Fifty
ladies as ‘madisar mamis’
and hundred men were dressed up in
a typical filmi style. The total extras
were a whopping number of more than
750.

We
had earlier reported that the scene would
also feature 100 elephants along with
Kamal. But industry sources reveal that
it is almost an impossible task to transport
so many elephants, take care of their
needs etc. They should also be very careful
as not to antagonize the animal welfare
people. Taking all these into consideration,
the song may have been shot with a fewer
number of elephants. Watch this space
for more updates.
