The
announcement of entertainment tax
rebate for movies with Tamil titles
has been received with wide-open
hands by the Tamil cinema industry.
While we thought there were no differences
of opinions in this stand, Amir
stands out in this issue and criticized
the Tamil Nadu government for granting
tax rebate merely base on the movies
with Tamil title.
Well to go any further, if you have
doubts about who Amir is, he is
the director who caught the public’s
attention with his ‘Ram’,
which eventually set Jeeva’s
career in a fast track.

|
|
Amir
is furious about the announcement and further
criticizes the government by stating that
this rule enables soft-porn / obscene movies
to get a rebate on the tax as well which
will lead the producers of such movies to
advertise the movies to be tax free, simply
for the sake of naming in Tamil. |
|
He
questions government’s decision
to render financial assistance to
the movie Periyar and asks if the
government considers Periyar to
be a significant movie, why the
movie was not produced by NFDC.
He further queries whether the government
will provide financial aid to movies
based on the life of other leaders
as well.
Amir has also declared that he will
raise the issue on September 23,
2006 when entire Tamil cinema gathers
to felicitate the Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister in the Nehru Stadium.

Following
this statement, the Producers Council, Distributors
Council and Directors Association criticized
Amir’s actions in different statements
issued here in Chennai. While the Producers
Council has disassociated itself from Amir
for his actions, Directors Council condemned
him for his statement.
|
|
|
In
a separate statement issued by Chennai
– Kanchipuram – Thiruvalloor
district distributors association,
Arulpathy and G. Sekharan accused
Amir of backstabbing while riding
the same horse. They also stated
that Amir’s activities in
this regard are highly condemned.
On the contrary, Amir has released
a statement slamming the accusations
thrown at him by refusing that he
has not made any remarks defaming
the Tamil Nadu government or the
Chief Minister in particular.
|
|
|
He
further stated that he is in no way responsible
for the activities that are seemed to be
happening to slander his image in the public.
Well, we smell something
fishy and do predict a riot. Keep watching
this space for updates.
