Kabhi
Alvida Naa Kahna or KANK, a Karan
Johar saga was released on Friday
amidst much hype and hoopla. As
expected the metros are doing tremendous
business with first 2 weeks completely
booked by corporate houses and other
bulk-booking agents. According to
the trade pundits, major metros
like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad
and Delhi had a great opening but
semi urban places like Lucknow and
Pune had a luke warm response.
The curiosity that generally goes
with any Karan Johar movie is exploited
completely with the release of 1000
prints.

The
popular star cast of Amitabh, Abhishek,
Sharukh, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta
has also added to the attraction. Kajol
and John Abraham are a surprise element
in this movie. The film might recover its
costs in the first two weeks, thanks to
the pre-release hype. But there is less
likelihood of repeat audience as there are
no elements to interest women and children.
|
|
The
movie deals with extra marital relationships,
which may not be well received with
the middle and lower middle classes.
All said and done, the bold theme
would come across as a culture shock
to audience from these places. Conservative
women are averse to such flings
and the movie might take a beating
due to this.
Though Karan Johar claims that ‘one
man-one woman’ is a thing
of the past, it would definitely
take some more time to go well with
the conservative Indians.

His
bold attempt at questioning the institution
of marriage and fidelity would definitely
raise a few eyebrows. The fate of KANK would
be known in a few days when more reports
would start poring in. Until then let us
wait and watch….
