Vidya
Balan the doe eyed beauty of ‘Parineeta’
has been roped in as the heroine in a Hindi
remake of Chandramukhi by Priyadarshan.
The original Malayalam movie was directed
by Faazil which fetched Shobana, her first
national Award for Best Actress in 1993.

Priyadarshan,
the Malayalam and Hindi director
who has given many a hits in both
the languages intends to remake
Chandramukhi in Hindi. Vidya is
going to be cast in Jyothika’s
role.
Many of the top heroines were considered
for this coveted role. In fact Kajol
was almost sure to do this. Then,
there was a talk about Aishwarya
Rai but as it has become customary
these days for her to refuse good
roles, she has done it this time
also. As they say, Aishwarya’s
loss, Vidya’s gain. Vidya
is going to be paired with Akshay
Kumar.

The role demands that Vidya learns dance
that too Kathak as Priyadarshan is going
to cast her as a Bengali dancer. While talking
about Vidya, Priyadarshan was mighty impressed
with her capabilities as an actress and
was sure that she would deliver the goods.
He finds that she has come a long way after
Parineeta and is making definite progress.
Though Parineeta was a period film, this
present film would definitely take her to
a totally different plane.
Since the role demands that the leading
lady be agile and graceful, Vidya fits the
bill perfectly especially with her traditional
Indian looks. To get the perfect movements,
she has been asked to learn Kathak which
she is doing currently. Let us all wait
for the Hindi ‘Chandramukhi’
to hit the screen soon.
