When
recent remakes of Vijay and Vikram, the
crowd pullers and safe bets in Kollywood
crashed at the box office, it immediately
sent panic waves in the film industry and
several banners which opted for remake put
brakes on their plans. |
|
|
After
a brief lull, the remakes are back
with full vigour. ‘Remake’
Raja, ‘Jayam’ Ravi’s
brother whose earlier two remake
ventures were stupendous hits, is
back with, what else, a remake.
SSUE is a faithful copy of super
hit ‘Nuvvastantantae Nennodantana’,
the first directorial venture of
Prabhu Deva.
In spite of the bombing of ‘Aadhi’
at box office, Vijay has gathered
his wits to do ‘Pokiri’,
a remake of recent Telugu hit bearing
the same title starring Mahesh Babu.

Producer-actor
Prakashraj is not far behind. He has
chosen to take the avatar as a director
with the remake of Mohan Lal hit ‘Udhayananu
Tharam’.
Raja who has again hit the jackpot
with a third successful remake is
of the opinion that doing remakes
is no easy joke. You have a successful
script by your side and half the battle
is won. If you film it properly, success
is assured. |

The
success of SSUE has confirmed that it is
in the hands of the director whether the
remake will hit the bulls eye or not, and
has nothing to do with the story or other
linguistic issues. It has also injected
confidence in producers for remakes and
the rates for recent Telugu hits like ‘Godavari’
are climbing up.
For Ravi, whose outside banner films were
damp squibs at the box office, SSUE may
help to revive his career. One has to wait
and see whether he will continue only to
be a successful remake hero.
