In
Tamilnadu, pancake and politics always go
hand in hand. To reiterate this fact the
entire cinema fraternity comprising of Tamil
Film Directors Association headed by S A
Chandrasekhar and the Tamil Film Producers
Council, headed by Ramanarayanan has announced
that they would felicitate CM Karunanidi
for his goodies to the tinsel town. |
|
|
The
felicitation would be held at the
Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai on
September 23rd. Eminent Tamil lyricist
Vaali and Vairamuthu will be penning
the special commemorative song for
the CM and leading cine artists
of the past, present and future
are expected to jive for the same.
The function is sure to draw a huge
crowd from the entire cinema fraternity,
leading the bandwagon would be artistes
like Kamalhassan and Rajnikanth.
|
|
|
This
felicitation is being done to express the
gratitude of the Tamil cinema industry to
the CM who has waived the entertainment
taxes for films with Tamil titles, unveiled
the statue of Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan and
the bust of producer A V Meiyappan, reduced
the charges of shooting in public places
and granted Rs 95 lakhs for the upcoming
film ‘Periyar’.

|
Speaking to the media, Chandrasekar
and Ramanarayanan sang hosannas for
CM and said that he is responsible
for the fresh lease of life that Kollywood
is enjoying now.
The associations that would be joining
in this felicitation are Cine Artists
Association, FEFSI and its allies,
Distributors Association, Film Chamber
and Small Screen Producers Guild.
Shooting on that day would be cancelled
to facilitate full attendance. |

As
the curtains draw on the event, CM would
be presented with a memorable memento which
would be reminiscence to the deep and special
bondage that Kollywood shares with him.
Of course this function is not without its
controversies. Sarath Kumar, President of
Nadigar Sangam was not keen about this function
initially as he belongs to the AIADMK faction
and had even considered boycotting the same.
But his close circle has advised him against
this saying that politics and cinema should
be treated on separate lines and in fact
this occasion could even help him revive
his old friendship with Kalignar. Hence
Sarath also would be joining the celebration.
But we have to wait and watch the reaction
of our former CM Jayalalitha on this.
