Movie buffs may be aware that most of the films released this New Year have no big star cast. The only high budget movie is the Rs. 6-crore Unnale Unnale, directed by Jeeva and produced by Oscar Ravichandran. Though the movie cast is full of new faces, tickets have sold like hot cakes.

Another interesting aspect is that tickets for a special show at Satyam theatre in Chennai have also been sold out. Generally, only movies with high star value are showcased in special shows. With Unnale Unnale receiving the high-end treatment all eyes are eager on how this movie will fare.
Mayakannadi is another much-awaited movie with Cheran donning the lead role. This film has evoked huge expectations due its high publicity and Illayaraja's music. But the film has received lukewarm response in terms of ticket sales.
The youthful Chennai 600028, directed by Venkat Prabu and produced by SPB Charan and JK Saravana, and with a huge star cast full of new faces has also not sold out as anticipated.
Jithan Ramesh starrer, Madurai Veeran directed by R. K.Vincent
Selva and Chinni Jayanth's Kaanalneer have received not
much of a reception. Both the movies are banking on good
word-of-mouth reports to push them further in their first
week of release. Arputha Theevu, a downright children's
film, in which 400 dwarfs have acted has not made any
impact despite projecting Malavika in a different vein
resulting in a deviation from the children's movie image.
