After
being pitched rivals for the airwaves, Sun TV
and Raj TV have reached an out-of-court settlement
for telecast rights of hit movies. Raj had sued
Sun about infringement of rights for popular
movies like Thalapathy, Nayagan, Kadhal kottai
etc. stating that it had the perpetual rights
for these films while Sun had declared them
to be its in its IPO documents. According to
the settlement, apparently for about Rs.19 million,
both the channels could henceforth telecast
these films. This would pave the way for an
amicable resolution of telecast issues of about
66 films. Sun TV has in its library an overall
collection 2650 films in different languages
while Raj holds about 2500 Tamil titles.
