Ban
for interviews and channels' alternate plan
for Tamil New Year specials!! |

It is that part of the year when the battle
lines are drawn between TV channels again. Come
festive occasions, TV channels fall over each
other to lure the living-room audiences with
specially packaged programmes complete with
previews from new releases, road shows, and
star interviews. But this time, looks like the
last item on the list may have to go off the
agenda. The forced decision comes in the wake
of the Producers and Distributors Councils’
recent ban on film artists giving interviews
on TV. Which has obviously left the channels
in a fix.

In fact, in recent times, the absence of actors
and actresses is conspicuous even in popular regional
programmes. There is no more star attraction to
share the frame with Pepsi Uma on Sun TV’s
famous dial-in programme ‘Ungal Choice’.
And now, for Tamil New Year, TV channels are trying
to rope in interviews with familiar faces like
actress Charmee from the Telugu industry to boost
their TRP ratings. Looks like the ‘authentic
Tamil flavour’ will be sadly lacking in
TV programmes this Pudhu Varusha Pirappu.
