Surely, director-turned-hero Cheran seems disgruntled
with Malaysian distributors who, is his views,
care more for masala film and the money that
it generates than real quality films. This is
a damning view from a director who is someone
in the industry. Cheran, who was in Kuala Lumpur
recently to launch the CD of Bharathi Kannamma,
said: “There is no honesty amongst distributors.
This is further compounded by VCD/DVD piracy.”
He added that from now on he would distribute
his films himself for the distributors want
the film for a pittance. Of course, Cheran did
find it difficult to come across a theatre that
would screen films with no star value. Cheran’s
pain was evident when he said: “Malaysians
seem to give more importance to stars than to
the quality of films.”
