SPB Charan has done it. Aaranya Kaandam, produced by him, which has been languishing in the cans for some time, is gearing up for release having been cleared by a tribunal convened by the Supreme Court. He and the director, Thiagarajan Kumararaja, are very happy as they have won their case. Aaranya Kaandam starring Ravikrishna, Sampath Raj and Jackie Shroff won the Grand Jury Award at the South
Asian International Film Festival.
It is a gangster movie with heavy doses of violence and profanity which the censors objected too. SPB Charan felt that if he made the 50 odd cuts they demanded, the movie would be slashed to smithereens. Choosing to fight them, he moved to the Supreme court, as he believed in his film. His efforts have paid off finally, after months of bitter struggle and frustration. Good for him!
